SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY

25-year-old Joseph Walsh of Jessup faces a string of charges after a police chase in Lackawanna County Thursday morning.

The chase began after officers spotted a truck parked in the driving lane of Interstate 81 South near Moosic. Two off duty officers pulled up behind the vehicle and switched on their emergency lights. The driver then sped off leading the officers on a chase on and off the interstate. At one point the officers said the truck stoipped and they got out to approach the vehicle only to see it rolling backwards towards them. The truck then sped off again, finally stopping near the Valley View Terrace Apartments when the vehicle's breaks caught fire.

Officers say they chased Walsh on foot till he ran into an apartment at the Valley View Complex. They ordered him out and, after a few minutes, he was taken into custody.

The truck was stolen from Pyne Freight Lines in Taylor early Thursday morning. The owner there said Walsh appearantly didn;t know how to release the vehicle's air break system.

Walsh was arraigned at the Lackawanna County Prison on charges of simple assault, recklessly endangering others, fleeing and eluding, receiving stolen property, disorderly conduct, reckless driving, and DUI.
