JIM THORPE, CARBON COUNTY- Corrine Miller of South Avenue in Jim Thorpe is in critical condition Wednesday night.

Her house was destroyed by flames at about 3:30 Wednesday morning.

Two apartment buildings were destroyed in the fire, including Leon Diehl’s, who lived next door to Miller for four years.

Diehl said he is, "Waiting to see if there's anything we can salvage."

Robert Eldridge of Jim Thorpe helped neighbors from surrounding homes out as fire threatened to spread.

"It happened. To me it's an act of god but it's a heck of an act of god when you got three houses taken out like that," said Eldridge.

Eldridge lives behind the burned buildings.

Miller was taken to Lehigh Valley hospital.

Neighbors say she was in her sixties and used a portable wheelchair to get around the neighborhood.

Neighbor Tom Strohl said, “That's how she got around to go to church and everything. I hope she comes around. They said she was pretty bad."

A state police fire marshal will inspect this rubble Wednesday, hoping to find its cause.

Fire crews tells Eyewitness News the Diehl family is getting help from the Red Cross.
