Williamsport, Lycoming County-
A big rally for Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden was held in the Lamade Gymnasium at Lycoming College on Wednesday.
Biden took the stage around 4:30pm and focused on his and Barack Obama's two main goals -- to restore the middle class and regain America's respect throughout the world.
He became very emotional when talking about responsibly ending the war in Iraq, providing affordable healthcare for everyone in the country, and cutting taxes for the middle class. He also said Obama is the only presidential choice who will change the current economic situation.
"Today's economy is the result of the last eight years under President Bush," said Biden. "And John McCain and Sarah Palin would only continue those same poor policies."
Biden also cracked some jokes, saying if John McCain tried to dress up as an agent of change for Halloween, the costume just wouldn't fit. He also poked at McCain and Palin calling each other "mavericks."
"Hey, maverick. Hey, maverick. We're mavericks," said Biden, to a laughing crowd. "I'll paraphrase what Senator Bobby Casey had to say about that. You can't call yourself a maverick when all you've been for the last eight years is a sidekick."
Despite having some fun with his speech, Biden said in these final days, the candidates need to stop slinging mud and start telling the people what they'll provide for the country.
"Barack Obama has a spine made of steel, and he can handle the jabs over the next five days," said Biden. "But this country cannot handle another four years of Bush's policies under McCain."
