Judge Lokuta's Former Bosses Called Again To Testify - Thursday, January 3, 2008 at 11:40PM EST

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- "They presented their case for whatever it's worth and you know my opinion about what it's worth. It's not a high opinion," Attorney Louis Sinatra said by phone Thursday about the Judicial Conduct Review board's case against his client, Luzerne County Judge Ann Lokuta.

"They've been investigating this matter for years. The court gave them ample opportunity to present their case," Sinatra said about court documents filed Wednesday by the conduct board. In them, information is presented on two former president judges who will be called as rebuttal witnesses to testify against Judge Lokuta.

"I have no idea what they attempt to try and illicit from these two witnesses, because both testified extensively during their (board) Case-in-Chief.

It's expected now Senior Judges Patrick Toole and Michael Conahan will recount details for the board about Judge Lokuta's alleged improper and abusive behavior as a member of the Luzerne County bench.

Attorney Sinatra says the standards for rebuttal witnesses are strict and limited. Sinatra believes the judges' initial testimony in September hardly impacted his client.

"Both witnesses testified to the matters which are scrupulously in detail in court records and their testimony in court records was devoid of any documentary evidence," Sinatra said.

Judge Lokuta has defended herself with what her attorney calls the "best evidence." Case files and transcripts are what detail, according to her defense team, what did and did not happen in and outside of her courtroom. The judge, through courtroom testimony, has refuted claims she was a villain from the bench.

"And I believe she has remained determined to clear her good name. I think she's done a very good job so far exploding these charges against her," Sinatra said.

Part three of the trial of Judge Ann Lokuta resumes Monday, January 14.

WBRE News will be in Philadelphia and have the latest as the trial gets underway.
