Jumping for Heart Health

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY - Kids in one area school district honored a teacher and got heart healthy at Jump for the Heart Day. Students spent the day jumping around. Donors sponsored their efforts to raise money for the American Heart Association.
It was a kid's dream. They were allowed to bounce around as much as they wanted. In fact teachers in the Stroudsburg School District encouraged them to get their blood pumping by jumping as many times as they could.
Third grader Jeremiah Alexander called it, "A lot of fun."
Third grader Livia Marga added, "It's so fun that you get to be energetic more and it actually does help your heart and it's just fun when you jump."
All of the jumping helps keep kids healthy and it honors a man who spent his life trying to keep kids healthy - Jay Effross.
Event organizer Susan Rubin said, "He was selfless. He was a fantastic, fantastic person."
Effross taught and coached in Stroudsburg for more than 20 years. Rubin said, "Jay was very much loved by the community. He was loved by the school district."
Effross died from heart disease about two years ago. Susan said, "He'd probably be a little embarrassed that we were using his name but I think he'd be very happy that we were perpetuating the education of wellness and health."
Alexander said, "If you're moving around then your heart is becoming healthy."
Good exercise and good fun; two things that would have caused Jay Effross to jump for joy.
Event organizers hoped to raise more than $13,000 Thursday.
