Juvenile Cases Vacated in Disgraced Judges Case - Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 6:51PM EST

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The State Supreme Court has issued an order vacating all juvenile cases handled by a disgraced Luzerne County judge Mark Ciavarella.

The 9-page ruling was handed down Thursday afternoon by the Pennsylvania Supreme court.

The court says the rights of the juveniles were violated and thereby their cases should be expunged.

It's all connected to the alleged "kids for cash" scheme involving former judges Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan.

The Supreme Court appointed a special judge, Arthur Grim, to review about 6,000 cases to determine if any or some of those cases should be thrown out.

Ciavarella pleaded guilty in February, to taking millions of dollars in kickbacks to make sure kids were sent to PA Child Care Detention facility in Pittston township.

Judge Grim determined that the rights of the juveniles were violated and the supreme court agreed and said there was enough evidence to clear the records.

They point to the "kids for cash" scheme as the major reason the juvenile's records will now be expunged.

The former judges have since pleaded not guilty in that scheme.
