Juvenile Justice Hearings Continue - Friday, April 2, 2010 at 04:11AM EST

PLAINS TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY -- Four families of juveniles affected by a tainted juvenile court system testified before this special commission.

While they've been through the horror of getting wrapped up in corruption...they told their stories today to make sure it won't happen again.

The testimony was at times too tough to continue.

Susan Mishanski of Hanover Towship said, Your heart can never plan for the emotional trauma."

Mishanskis son was sentenced by former Luzerne County judge Mark Ciavarella.

Mishanski and other teens and parents relived their nightmare in former judge Ciavarella's courtroom .

The Interbranch Commission on Juvenile Justice heard this and 3 other tales of tragedy at a Thursday hearing in Plains Township.

One parent's 15 year old daughter was sentenced under Ciavarella.

She wished to remain unidentified but said the whole system failed and then refused to listen to her story.

The parent said, "Our children were being abused, our greatest assets, our future. Even the higher courts dismissed our request to address the gross constitutional violations and abusive behavior."

The commission could make changes to Luzerne County's juvenile court system in wake of the alleged kids for cash scheme.

Former judges Michael Conahan and Mark Ciavarella allegedly sentenced juveniles to for-profit detention centers all for 2.8 million dollars in kickbacks.

Jack Van Reeth of Mountain Top and his daughter told their story in hopes this commission will listen and fix what they call a broken system.

Van Reeth said, "They need to understand that the younger generation is poisoned the way the criminal justice system and we need to demonstrate that the rule of law has finally been reestablished."

The commission will take this hearing's testimony along with several others that have been held and make a final report to the State Supreme Court, governor and general assembly in late May.
