HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY -- A Hazleton landmark is getting a helping hand for the performing arts.

The Hazleton Elementary-Middle School, also known as The Castle, is receiving $300,000 in federal funding. Congressman Paul Kanjorski made the announcement Tuesday.

The money will be used to turn the auditorium into a state of the art performance theater. Elaine Maddeon Curry said, "We grew up in this neighborhood, and to see this building brought back to its former gloryÉ This we felt is one of the most beautiful buildings in the City of Hazleton."

The auditorium will serve as the main community theater for the school as well as other groups in the area.
