JENKINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY- Pa. 11th District Congressman Paul Kanjorski said Wednesday night in a debate his campaign has spent $1.5 million to retain his seat. Republican contender Lou Barletta quickly disputed the figure, tying Kanjorski's efforts to gain a 13th-term win to political donations made by foundering Wall Street corporations. Barletta claims the figure to be well into the millions. Kanjorksi refuted the number. Both men met at WVIA-TV studios for an hour-long debate of issues. A panel of three presented questions. Healthcare, immigration, student loans, the war in Iraq and fiscal stability were some of the issues that got the candidates' attention. It was the one and only meeting for Nanticoke native congressman Kanjorksi and Hazleton mayor Barletta.
