The fight for your vote is hitting the home stretch and candidates and their volunteers are doing everything they can to gain your support. Of course the eyes of the nation are on the race for the White House, but a local race has also captured national attention. That's between Incumbent Democrat Paul Kanjorski and Republican challenger Lou Barletta. We caught up with both of them Monday as they tried to gain your vote.

Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta is trying tio unseat longtime Incumbent Paul Kanjorski. Monday he appeared at a non-partisan luncheon at the Scranton Club. He was able to say a few words, words he hopes can capture votes in the Lacakwanna County area.

Barletta says he is confident. "This is a very important race for the nation and Northeastern Pennsylvania. I believe we sent a very clear message to Washington, people do want change. Change is going to be on the way," he said.

Barletta is not afraid of a trickle down effect from nationwide polls that show support for Barack Obama. "It's interesting as we traveled though district we noticed there have been McCain/Lou signs in a lot of yards and some with Obama and Lou signs," he added.

We caught up with Paul Kanjorksi as he ralled the troops at Democratic headquarters in Wilkes-Barre. He too is optmistic. "The message I'm delivering, I want to be part of the Obama team knowing that NEPA realizes by electing me I'll be part of progress that's going to come to Northeastern Pennsylania. I'm part of it," he said.

Most agree this is the closest race Paul Kanjorksi has ever had. In 2000 he did beat Barletta by a comfortable margin.
