Keeping The Fitness Resolution - Monday, January 4, 2010 at 5:15PM EST

LUZERNE COUNTY -- Gym memberships normally skyrocket in the month of January. New Year's resolutions always bring a new flock of people to fitness centers, ready to work out. Sticking with that resolution can be tough.

The key to keeping a New Year's resolution to stay physically fit could come from people like Dante Molino of Wyoming. "I've stuck with it. That's my resolution, not to stop. That's the easiest way to do it. That way i don't have to start over again every year," said Molino.

Molino and others were working out at Danko's Fitness in Plains. A few years back, his resolution was to work out more and he never stopped.

Gym memberships typically spike for the new years, then dip drastically by March. Danielle Padavan of Dupont sees the trend and said, "I think it's hysterical, actually."

Padavan's advice to people who have strayed from their New Years workout program is, "I would say to start out small, don't push yourself too much because then you're not going to want to come back. You're going to be really sore."

Mike Garzella of West Pittston is a perfect example of someone hitting the gym for the start of 2010. "Well it's something I've been putting off for a while. I've been wanting to get back into the gym," said Garzella.

He's hoping to stick with it and should probably take notes two stationary bikers behind him at the Wilkes-Barre YMCA. They are staying away from the pressure of resolutions and sticking with their normal workout routine. ŅIf it was a new years resolution, it would end tomorrow. I try to keep this part of my routine," said one man working out.

Margaret Petty of Mountaintop said, ŅIt feels good. I try to come anyway but New Years is always extra motivation."

Motivation that can hopefully last through 2010 and beyond.
