Bloomsburg, Columbia County-

Tucked away in the woods on Bloomsburg University’s upper campus is a summer camp unlike any other. Children from ages 10-14 are taking on the adventure of a lifetime through B. U.’s Quest Program.

In its second year, the five-day camp features activities like kayaking, rock wall climbing, high rope zip lining, and plenty more.

Counselors like recent B. U. grad Tabitha Chlubicki even helped to design the course, with active kids in mind.

Chlubicki noted, “Besides just the basic skills and knowledge that they learn, (it’s) just a fun time and more appreciation for the outdoors.”

Here at the Quest Adventure Camp the kids not only participate in a lot of fun physical activities, but they learn a lot about teamwork and safety.

10-year-old Sydney Haettrich, of Bloomsburg, said, “Right now we’re zip lining and it’s kind of scary when you first get up there but when you go down it’s a lot of fun.”

Haettrich couldn’t even name her favorite part of camp. “I don’t know, I like it all,” she added.

There’s also an adventure camp in the works here for children with disabilities. Organizers hope the camps will have a lasting impact on the kids who attend.

Executive Director Brett Simpson explained, “We want them to discover some things that they can be passionate about and maybe that gets them excited to be outdoors, or to explore science more, to explore being with people more.”

There are two more adventure camps this summer, one in July and one in August. Quest is also adding three science camps and a weekend retreat for adults.
