Kingston Hit and Run Update
Kingston Hit and Run Update - Friday, January 9, 2009 at 8:14PM EST
The issue at hand here is which vehicle killed Shaughnessy? The judge ruled that there is no proof as to who is responsible for Shaughnessey's death. But her sister says, they just want the truth to come out.
This is a photograph of Sharon Shaughnessey. A young woman’s life was ended when she was struck down by three vehicles last August. It happened on Wyoming Avenue in Kingston . Two of the drivers left the scene. They are 23 year old Megan Panowicz of Forty-Fort and 63 year old Linda Giordano. Panowicz says she panicked. She first stopped and realized what she hit and then left after seeing two other cars hit the body. Giordano says she did not know she hit a person and kept on going.
Brenda Shaughnessey says her sister did not have to die. Brenda says, "We hope to see justice. I don't want to make myself sound like we're out for blood or anything but if it wasn't for the first car my sister would still be here."
Shaughnessy asks how could you not know you hit something, especially a human being. Brenda adds, "How could you not realize something was on the road even if it was a blanket or a sheet. Like they said I know if I hit a pothole. I know if my car lifts off the ground."
Shaughnessy does not understand the legalities of the judges ruling but knows her life now is very different, especially when she drives her car. Brenda concludes, "I can't drive the road now. I take a back road now. I won't drive it. My boyfriend doesn't do it either." | |
