In central Pennsylvania, people have a chance to help some children who truly need it. Eyewitness News stopped by the 5th annual at Wal-Mart in Montoursville Thursday afternoon. As KISS-FM DJ Lou Kolb brings the message of the Children's Miracle Network to the airwaves, the phones begin to ring. Other folks make their donations in person. Mark Shoemaker, of Williamsport, said, "Lou Kolb is a good friend of mine from the neighborhood. I heard about it on the radio and it's a good cause." Its a good cause that benefits the Janet Weis Children's Hospital, and pediatric patients like 9-year-old Conrad Mosier. Conrads mom, Melissa Asplund, said, "He was LifeFlighted at 13 weeks old in cardiac arrest from seizures. We lived at Geisinger pretty much the first six months. It's just a wonderful organization." Conrad is celebrating five years of being seizure-free. Now he and his mom say they have a simple reason for volunteering their time. Mosier explained, "Because it helps save kids' lives. The money raised here will stay local, and help the children's hospital in a variety of ways. Childrens Miracle Network Manager Vanessa Klingensmith noted, "We help the health system purchase equipment, help provide services, and not just for the hospitals and clinics, but also our outreach programs." A bake sale and raffle are also helping to bring in some cash. You can get involved and make a donation by calling 1-800-799-KIDS. Or you can visit the volunteers here at the Montoursville Wal-Mart Thursday night until 7 and Friday from 6am to 7pm.
