WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY - Dozens of veterans and their loved ones came together Saturday in Luzerne County to mark the 56th anniversary of the end of the Korean War.
People remembered the 141 Luzerne County servicemen who died during the Korean war. More than 7,000 Americans were captured, and nearly half of them died.
Fred Searles of Kingston Township was at Saturday morning's ceremony at the county courthouse. He tells us what got him through 33 months as a prisoner of war. "Faith, faith, and always waiting for the cavalry to come," he said.
They also paid tribute to 33 national guardsmen from the 109th Field Artillery. They were killed on a train wreck in Ohio while en route for deployment. | |
