WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY -- Some people who are currently unemployed say they don't have a job simply because they don't have a car.
Sandra Sion is without a job and would count on public transportation to get any future position.
"I know they need to go somewhere practical, like job sites in the industrial parks, because they don't," said Sion.
It's reasons like these the Luzerne County Transportation Authority is doing a study. One main issue keeps popping up.
"It's the need for transportation into the new development within the industrial park area, such as CenterPoint in Jenkins Township and Pittston Township," said Stanley Strelish, the executive director for LCTA.
The team that's doing the study will start riding LCTA buses next week. They'll turn in a preliminary evaluation, and LCTA will work from there.
"If we can make some slight adjustments before the complete study is over, we will do that," added Strelish.
But he doesn't expect major changes until the study is done October 1st. His main concern is varying start and end times with different shifts at the industrial park, something he says they'll evaluate much more closely.
"Hopefully we can address that issue once the study is completed and we'll get the people where they need to go at their various starting times," said Strelish.
That includes Sandra Sion and Bryan O'Donnell. Both say they'd love to apply for jobs at local industrial parks.
"I would go anywhere," said Bryan O'Donnell, "as long as I can hop on a bus." | |
