Williamsport, Lycoming County-

Local parks were a popular destination in Williamsport on this Labor Day holiday. We checked out how some folks spent their day off.

It was a perfect afternoon to head outdoors and enjoy Labor Day. Many took advantage by heading to Memorial Park to watch their kids play in the sand or soar on the swings.

Tami Brungard, of Jersey Shore, even took the day off from cooking. She and her family went out for lunch before heading over here.

Brungard noted, "We just brought the kids out to get out in the fresh air, enjoy the sun, and come to the park and play."

And since this park is right next to the ballpark, it was a great place to enjoy a quick picnic before settling in for an afternoon of summer baseball. Oren Helbok's family did all that and then some.

They drove here from Unityville. Helbok explained, "We live far enough from here that we have to do as many errands as we can on every trip. So we did our shopping, came out and had our lunch, and now we're going to the game."

Williamsport resident and former police chief Curley Jett had his family picnic yesterday. So, over on the other side of town at Brandon Park, he spent the day polishing up his 2005 Cadillac.

But he doesn't mind the work. Curley smiled and said, "No, actually this is relaxation. I have a nice vehicle, I like it, and I try to keep it clean."

A labor of love, no doubt. And one that bears the logo of another of Curley's passions- football.

He added, "Actually my son was the one that kind of inspired me to do that. He's a Yankees fan, and he has all this stuff in his car, and I said, 'Well hey, maybe I should go out and buy some myself,' so I bought some Eagles stuff."

And everyone we spoke with agrees, it's nice to have a day off, no matter how you choose to spend it.
