LACKAWANNA COUNTY - Eight people are homeless this morning after an apartment building went up in flames.

The fire started just before 11 p. m. last night at the Lackawanna Co. Housing Authority Complex in Jermyn.

One of buildings is badly damaged this morning.

Fifty firefighters battled the fire, but neighbors including Dante Weldon, were helping before crews even arrived.

Weldon ran into the burning building and got one man out.

He explained, “I ran across the street and the fire was going on top of the roof . I ran in there and I got a dude collapsed on the stairs so I got him out - I carried him out.”

The Red Cross was there to help out the fire victims.

They said it’s because there's been so many fires this year and their resources are running out.

Brian Wright of the Red Cross said, “to make a donation to the red cross means it stays in your community. With the frequency of the fires in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Luzerne County, Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Wayne our funds are dwindling our funds to help the victims of these fires our funds are being depleted at a fast pace.” Click to donate to the Red Cross.
