SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Another area college campus is growing with the purchase of another building.

Lackawanna College and county officials gathered in Scranton Friday to sign off on the acquisition of the former Koch-Conley building in the 400 block of North Washington Avenue. Lackawanna College paid 850-thousand dollars to buy the building and will invest more than two million dollars to renovate it. The purchase now allows the college to assist the newly formed Commonwealth Medical School which will open in 2009.

Lackawanna College President Ray Angeli explained "This was a building we had in our design. It's going to allow us to do the expansion that we need to make. We're growing as a college. We've tripled in size in the last 7 or 8 years so we need the room and the space."

Lackawanna County Commissioner A.J. Munchak stated "Overall it's going to benefit the county in a sense that this is the first step in helping the medical school get here."

Friday's acquisition represents the 5th building that Lackawanna College now owns.
