LACKAWANNA COUNTY Ð Snow fell in Lackawanna County, but not nearly as much as farther south. The major roads were all passable, but for many people it was a day to dig out. The snow didn't start to pick up heavy here in Lackawanna County until.

The snow came down fast and furious in Jefferson Township Wednesday afternoon. Many people put shovels aside and let ATVs with plows do the work.

Justin Kredabul said, ÒItÕs Northeast Pennsylvania. ItÕs Mount Cobb. It snows. We get it."

By about 2:00 in the afternoon, there was already six inches of snow on the ground in the Jefferson Township area. The big problem is the wind though. ItÕs blowing in all directions.

In downtown Scranton the snow turned a usually bustling Lackawanna Avenue into a virtual ghost town. Even the Mall at Steamtown closed its doors.

Up the line in Archbald the dig out process began early for Maria Gorman. ÒI think I want to move to Florida,Ó she said.

Gorman was out every hour or so keeping her grandfather's sidewalk clean. She said it was easier. ÒYeah, keep on top of it, otherwise you're trying to lift heavy, wet snow and you can hurt your back."

In the Borough of Mayfield 3-year-old Luke Malia enjoyed his first big storm by helping his mother shovel. Even with a half-foot on the ground, Peggy Malia is still in a good mood.

ÒIn about a month or so, I'll be tired of the snow, but right now, because we haven't had much snow this year really, so I'm kinda hoping for a lot more snow," she said.
