SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Lackawanna County voters will be using new touch screen voting machines in this year's Primary Election.

The County Commissioners have approved the purchase of 600 machines manufactured by the Premier Election Solutions Company. The cost is expected to be covered by a 1.7 million dollar grant from the state.

The county had to use an optical scan paper ballot system last year after the electronic WIN voting machines they purchased for use in 2006 were de-certified by the state.

The new machines are expected to be on hand by mid-March which will allow time for training poll workers as well as the general public.
