SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- The United Way of Lackawanna County held its annual Day of Caring on Thursday. It also began its annual fund raising campaign! Volunteers from area businesses turned out to help United Way Agencies with tasks ranging from cleaning and painting to cutting the grass. The so-called Day of Caring was established to bring people into the agencies so they can see the work that's being done and know how their United Way contributions are put to use. Mary Ann Dziak of the Boy's and Girl's Club said the volunteers helped with work that would not have been done without their efforts. Other volunteers helped with painting that was needed at the Telespond Senior Services agency. The United Way's fund raising campaign officially began with a kick off at Cooper's Seafood in Scranton. This year's goal is 3.8 million dollars!
