Lake-Lehman Teachers Set to Strike on Monday

Lake-Lehman Teachers Set to Strike on Monday - Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 5:00PM EST

LEHMAN TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY- In a union meeting held Thursday afternoon, Lake-Lehman teachers gave the go-ahead for their second strike in as many years. They'll hit the picket lines on Monday, just one day before holiday break is set to begin.

The Lake-Lehman Education Association says the school board rejected their latest proposal earlier this week. The teachers have been without a contract since 2006.

“It’s very unfortunate that the school board would put everyone into this position once again. The association and the district have been bargaining for three-years, during which the parties and community suffered a lengthy work stoppage. We’ve offered a reasonable and modest contract proposal which is very sensitive and responsible to the community and fair to the district,” said John Holland of the state education association in a news release.

There's no word on how long the strike could last.
