TUNKHANNOCK, WYOMING COUNTY- Gables Bakery, a landmark business in Tunkhannock, will reopen under a new name and with a new owner next week.

The bakery was founded in Tunkhannock in 1959. The Gable family sold it to new owners in 2005. They closed the bakery in September of 2006.

Michael Dreisch is the new owner. He operates The Red House Bakery in Stevensville. Dreisch is working with Jason Tripp and K & J Painting and remodeling to renovate the bake shop for its scheduled grand opening in April. The business will also be called The Red House Bakery.

Dreisch said the tight economy doesn't seem to be bothering his baking business. In fact Dreisch said his bakery in Stevensville has had one of its best years. Dreisch says he is looking forward to serving customers in the Tunkhannock area.

Local residents seem pleased with the prospect of having a bakery in town again. Mel Milner said, "It's wonderful. Since Gables went out if you want to get something good, some real baked goods, you've got to go somewhere else."

Neighboring merchants like Patti St. Clair agree. Ms. St. Clair said, 'I'm just thrilled because it will bring more traffic to Tunkhannock."

She says many of the people who use to shop at the bakery also stopped in nearby stores to browse and buy as well.
