SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY
The owner of a landmark Scranton business damaged by fire Thursday night says he plans to be reopen by May first!
Fire investigators spent much of Friday sifting through debris at The Coney Island Texas Lunch on Cedar Avenue. Owner Tom Moran says most of the fire damage was limited to a counter area just inside the front door. Other sections of the business were damaged by smoke and water.
Moran took over the business in the 1960's. It originally opened in 1923. Moran was in the process of demolishing two upper floors but, ironically, that work was halted because of an injunction filed by the local historical society. The business was closed, however, when the renovation work began.
Moran's business was not included in a renovation project in the 500 block of Lackawanna Avenue in downtown Scranton so he decided to fund his own improvement project. | |
