UNION DALE, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY
Cable's General Store in Union Dale, Susquehanna County, will close its doors for good on Oct 31st.
The store opened in 1910 and has operated under several owners ever since. But the building's owner died and the building was put up for sale.
Jhared Madrid is the manager and son of the owner of the business. He says they can't afford to buy the building so they've decided to close. Madrid also cites economic conditions for the decision to close the General Store. He says some suppliers won't deliver the small quanities needed for the store so he's got to go on the road to shop for them. The additional expense forces the store to raise its prices and make it harder to compete with others in the area.
Madrid said he believes there is a prospective buyer for the building. But as far as he knows there are no plans for anyone else to run a store in the facility. | |
