Large Brush Fire Contained, Smaller Ones Pop Up - Monday, April 27, 2009 at 5:40PM EST

LUZERNE COUNTY- A Luzerne County wildfire that's already raced through thousands of acres continued to burn Monday morning.
Flames could still be seen flicking along a road off Route 309 in Mountain Top. Firefighters from the Bureau of Forestry and specialized crews took over the battle.

The fire has scorched 2,100 acres from Penobscot Mountain to Laurel Run. Fire crews were having a tough time fighting the flames because of the hot weather but were wrapping up Monday evening.

Meanwhile another brush fire had fire crews busy along I-81 near Hazleton. Just one lane is opened along the highway's southbound lane there.

Motorists are urged to slow down and use extreme caution if traveling along that portion of Interstate 81.
