Williamsport, Lycoming County-

Local leaders held an economic summit Monday on the campus of Penn College in Williamsport.

Industrial development was the focus of the summit, particularly gas exploration in the Marcellus Shale.

Elected officials from the city, county, and state learned more about the roles each entity plays in job creation.

They also worked to foster better relationships between each group.

Williamsport/ Lycoming Chamber of Commerce president Vince Matteo said, “Well, they’re good now, but they can always be better. And we can always find ways to cooperate even further, exchange of information, communicate with each other.”

Similar summits on retail and commercial development are planned for this fall.
