LEHIGHTON, CARBON COUNTY - The big dig continued Thursday afternoon all across northeastern and central Pennsylvania. The southern parts of the area were the hardest hit.
Parts of Carbon County saw two feet of snow.
Thursday was a day that Phil Deemer of Lehighton won't soon forget. It's the day he had to dig his family out.
"It's been hectic. We've been out, we probably have 10-12 hours in of shoveling time," Deemer said.
Along with his son Jarett, Deemer trucked shovels-full of snow across their street.
"I really don't feel like doing it," Jarett Deemer said. "It's a lot."
All across town, the clean-up was well underway. Wilbert Smith, who's lived in Lehighton for 60 years, says this is one of the worst winter storms he's seen.
"I would almost say this is just about the second worse one we had," Smith said. "We had one a couple years ago, just about like this."
Many cars were still buried in snow late Thursday afternoon.
Slush and snow still covered many of the streets in Lehighton. That made just getting around difficult.
"It has taken us abotu 45 minutes just to walk from a few blocks away, so, it's kinda crazy," Kristen Heller said.
Despite the piles of snow, many kids said the clean-up process didn't bother them because they didn't have to go to school. | |
