MILFORD, PIKE COUNTY - Hundreds of athletes, ran, swam and lifted at the Special Olympics in Pike County Monday. About 300 competitors showed off their stuff at Delaware Valley High School.

Lance Cavalone entered the squat competition. He's in 11th grade and he has something to prove.

"I have disabilities and I think people are always telling me, 'you can't do it,'" he said.

But Lance told WBRE News he can do whatever he sets his mind to. Monday, he wanted to do twenty squats.

Lance got off to a great start. He hit twenty without even breaking a sweat. So he kept going, and going.

When he hit fifty, his mom couldn't hold her excitement. At sixty five her eyes filled with tears.

And Lance kept on lifting.

He smashed the day's record for squats by more than twenty. But he said that's not good enough. "I was hoping for a hundred," he remarked.

Lance may not have been impressed by his gold medal performance but his mother sure was.

"I'm just excited for Lance period. I love him. He's a great kid. I love to see him excel in everything," she said.

After Lance proved he could reach, and surpass, his goals he was ready to relax and said simply, "I want to go to sleep."
