DREHER TOWNSHIP, WAYNE COUNTY

A lighting strike caused minor damage to a home in Dreher Township, Wayne County early Wednesday morning.

Marlene Rios said the bolt hit her home around 3:30 in the morning and set off smoke alarms in the residence. She said 'it sounded like an explosion."
Mrs Rios immediately ran to her 11-year-old daughter's room to get her out of the house. The fire touched off by the lighting strike was at a corner of the home just below that upstairs bedroom.

Mrs Ross used a fire extinguisher and neighbors trained a garden hose on the flames until volunteer firemen arrived on the scene. They were able to prevent any spread of the fire to other sections of the house.

George Rios was at work in New York when he got word about the lighting strike. He said the damage is not serious. Rios also said 'I'm going to try to find out what the statistics are because if there's less chance of being struck by lighting than winning the lottery, I think I'm going to start playing the lottery!"
