The owners of a Luzerne County day care are defending themselves after an eyewitness news report last night.
Little Steps Daycare in Kingston and Wilkes-Barre came under protest from former workers this week.
9 violations in an August inspection puts the status of Little Steps Daycare in Wilkes-Barre in jeopardy.
That's according to the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, or DPW.
Improper ventilation, exposed wires, and improper supervision of staff aides were the most serious violations.
Little Steps ownership responded in an email to eyewitness news.
It says "we take the charges that have been reported against our business very seriously."
Also, "we have every intention of complying to all regulations everyday.
But the violations aren't the only thing ownership is responding too.
Former Little Steps employee Danielle Lewis says, "We're not trying to get back at them, we just, all we wanted was our money and this wouldn't have happened."
Lewis and Erica Wrubel, protested outside Kingston 's Little Steps Wednesday.
They say their paychecks bounced.
Those weren't the only two complaining about non-payment to employees.
In the past two years, 16 wage complaints have been filed with the state department of labor against Little Steps.
Little Steps owners says "we strive to pay our employees accurately and on time."
Wrubel and Lewis say they haven't got their money yet.
The DPW says it's also not renewing little step's license.
Ownership responds saying "we have initiated an ongoing business improvement program."
Little Steps can appeal the license non-renewal.
That appeal has to be filed by the end of this month. | |
