Local Man To Appear On 'Deal or No Deal' - Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 5:43PM EST

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY --Deal or no deal? For one local man appearing on the hit NBC game show was a deal he couldn't refuse. Next week on WBRE, you'll see Chris Higdon gun for a million. Our Jeff Chirico spoke to the man and his family --about this once in a lifetime experience.

Producers say they get 8 thousand video applications a day. Amid all those, a Dallas man caught their attention--and last October he, his family, and his dog, stepped on a Hollywood stage for a chance to take home a cool million.

He's the high-energy man behind the scenes at his family's restaurant, the Chill Grill in Wilkes-Barre. But Chris Higdon will soon step into the spotlight. Next week, the 21- year- old King's College marketing major will appear on the hit NBC game show. He taped the episode last October --months after sending in his video application. "I was watching Monday Night Football with my roommates. I'm sitting on my couch and they called me. It was one of the producers and she's like Chris, how do you feel about coming out to LA. next week? I'm like, I'm there."

He left classes for a week and his whole family went Hollywood. His mom, sister and grandfather were his on-stage supporters and got pampered. Chris’ mom, Mary Ellen Higdon says “we got there and producers called, "wardrobe to your hotel room.' I'm like what wardrobe? This is crazy." Vladimir Petorak, Chris' grandfather, says the show crew "comb your hair, spray your hair, put some powder on you, trim eye lashes.

But Chris had some extra help. Producers flew his best bud, Bentley to sit next to him on stage. “The theme of the show was man and his best friend." So with Bentley, Howie Mandel, and 26 beautiful models, Chris chose case after case on his way to a million. “It was probably the coolest experience of my life, being up on that stage, the lights, camera, Howie, my dog, the girls,” says Chris. And a million dollars!!!

But Chris can't reveal how much he won. "I've had people on my back for months, 'Chris how much have you won?' I haven't told a soul. All that knows is my family and Bentley, and I don't think Bentley's giving it up."

In his application, Chris told producers if he won a million dollars he would use the money to build two houses --one for him and one for his parents. You can see Chris, a week from tonight on WBRE.
