AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY- A woman from our area will be joining the Red Cross hurricane relief efforts in Texas.

Chirstine Mizenko has worked with the Luzerne County Red Cross for 14 years. She has previously flown to Florida and New Orleans to help with hurricane relief efforts there.

Sunday she flew off to Dallas, Texas. Once there she will be stationed at Red Cross shelters throughout the disaster area.

Mizenko said because she doesn't have the money, she donates her time instead. “I feel like giving my time is a lot better and the rewards you get are unbelievable. Just to have a person come up and smile because you gave them a bottle of water, you cant imagine how it is until you’re there," she told us.

Mizenko plans on being in Texas for up to three weeks, and isn't sure exactly where she'll be stationed.
