SWIFTWATER, MONROE COUNTY - The Urbane Gospel Choir not only believes in its positive message; it also believes in winning.
The group from Pocono Mountain West High School is stepping its way into the Big Apple to compete in two choir competitions.
"I love to sing and dance. The spirit of it gives me energy," said choir member, Steve Barrientos.
The choir emits a powerful energy it hopes to share not only with the competition's judges, but with its audience as well.
"All of the music is positive and in today's world, young people need something like that," said member, Michelle Rescigno.
From song, to dance, and mastering musical instruments, the choir has faced many bumps on its road to New York City.
"Different challenges make us stronger as a group; it makes me stronger," said member, Robert Robbins.
"It takes motivation to do what you love," said Barrientos.
And this group, who consider themselves brothers and sisters, look to each other for support during all of the ups and downs of competition.
"At times we argue like family, but we come back and love each other like family," Robbins said.
And while the team would love to win, they are just excited to go along for the ride.
"They wowed us last year, and I can't imagine what they'll come up with this year," said Rescigno.
The Urbane Gospel Choir competes in New Jersey Friday and in New York City on Saturday.
