PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY- A Pennsylvania National Guardsmen serves and dies for his country in Afghanistan . Lieutenant Jeffrey DePrimo was hit by a roadside bomb Tuesday morning. He was stationed out of the West Pittston National Guard Armory.

From a young age, DePrimo left lasting impressions. Claire Kulp of St. Mary Help of Christians Church says, "We've had many wonderful young people graduate from Seton Catholic and he was among the best."

DePrimo graduated from Seton Catholic High School in Pittston in 1991. Sister Claire Kulp taught DePrimo during his Junior year. Kulp says he was a talented guitarist. Kulp says she talked about memories like this with DePrimo's mother at mass this morning. "I said I am so sorry this is awful, and she said but he's in a better place. And I am humbled by the faith that that woman shows," she says.

Kulp says the DePrimo's were longtime members of St. Mary's help of Christians church in Pittson. A special mass was held this morning for the family at nearby Blessed Sacrament.

James Redington was Seton High School 's Assistant Principal when DePrimo was a student. He saw DePrimo play soccer for Seton, and graduate with honors. "He was an all around good kid. And obviously that continued with him when he continued to serve his country and ultimately paying the ultimate sacrifice," he said.

DePrimo knew what he was getting into. Fellow workers Dan lane at Barber Ford in Exeter put it like this. "Nothing could have stopped him from going over there. It's what he wanted in his heart and he was a good guy, a great man," one said.

Now, flags fly at half mast at the West Pittston Armory, where Lieutenant DePrimo served. Two other National Guardsmen were injured with DePrimo in this attack. The National Guard says they are also from Northeastern Pennsylvania . At the request of the families, their names are not being released right now.
