Local Veterans Gather for Pearl Harbor Day

Local Veterans Gather for Pearl Harbor Day - Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 11:50PM EST

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY- Veterans from across the area paused Sunday to remember the attack on Pearl Harbor 67 years ago.

American Legion Post 395 in Kingston honored victims of the attack by breaking glasses for those who have passed away. This event is a yearly tradition and is put together by a group of veterans called the survivors club.

When the event started there were some survivors, but they have all since passed on. Survivors' Club President Michael Favata says, “We're putting them out in an honor of being a member of the Pearl Harbor Association Club that we have here."

Harold Rosenn of Kingston says, “It was in our backgrounds all the time and we were very, very mindful of it. We lost many people and we knew that the outcome would depend on America."

Nearly 2,500 service members were killed in the Pearl Harbor attacks. Right now only about 6,000 survivors remain.
