WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- Suspended Judge Ann Lokuta is asking the Pa. Supreme Court to wade into her judicial discipline case.
The embattled Court of Common Pleas judge claims the Court of Judicial Discipline has mishandled the case since news of widespread courthouse corruption became public.
The 23-page document dated August 19 accuses the court's central judge of failing to recuse himself, despite a client relationship with Attorney Robert Powell, an admitted key participant in the scandal of locking kids away in prisons for cash kickbacks.
Richard Sprague, a prominent Philadelphia attorney, is one of the seven-member court. Sprague's firm, it's shown, also represented PA Child Care, the prison formerly owned by Powell.
Ex-judges Michael Conahan and Mark Ciavarella used the juvenile prison to house youths who passed through Ciavarella's court.
Lokuta is also asking the court to broaden her ability to discover evidence.
The petition also seeks the restoration of Lokuta's pay. | |
