A Luzerne County community is mourning the loss of longtime public servant.
70-year-old Exeter mayor Joseph Coyne died over the weekend from brain cancer.
Flags flew at half staff, and black bunting hangs outside the Exeter municipal building Tuesday afternoon.
Coyne was in his 11th year as mayor.
He previously served on borough council and once was a part-time police officer.
Exeter Borough police chief John Mcneil knew Coyne for 38 years.
He says, “The borough's lost a great man. He was sincere. He considered Exeter the top of the line. He did anything he can and would for Exeter Borough."
Cyne's public viewing will be held Tuesday evening at Peter Andonizio funeral home in West Pittston .
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning. | | |
