WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- In his early days, Charles "Cholly" Hayes got a big assignment. A cub photographer in the Army, Hayes was assigned to take pictures of President John F. Kennedy's visit to Berlin. That was the start of an illustrious, yet down-to-earth four-decade career in the news business.
From fires to accidents and virtually everything in between, Hayes was there. A force to be reckoned with, he prided his work on integrity and a gentlemanly approach to working with people in the "field."
He mentored hundreds of people who would work at WBRE-TV. He spent his 46 years with about 15 reporters.
We wish Cholly Hayes nothing but the absolute best in the future as he sets off into new adventures. | |
