Loose wheel caused school bus crash

Loose wheel caused school bus crash - Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 5:45PM EST

A state police inspection shows that's the reason a Masters Bus Line bus carrying 10 students crashed in Hanover township.

Hanover Township police chief William Howatt says "we're satisfied with that as being an accident. It's something that shouldn't happen but it's something that can't control 100 percent."

The wheel fell off the bus on route 29 on November 8-th

The bus crashed through a guard rail, and slid down the embankment.

Emergency crews had to rescue the students and driver, but no one was seriously hurt.

It's not clear how long the wheel was loose.

The inspection report said the rim had evidence of wear.

"it did show that there was an elongation on the rim of the tire that came off and that was probably the factor that caused the accident, caused the vehicle to go out of control and over the embankment."

The bus was inspected, and cleared by state police in august.

Northwest school district provides transportation for parochial students in it's district, and contracts with masters.

The parochial route has been replaced by another school bus line.

But the school still uses 6 masters busses for public routes.

The reason the parochial bus was replaced by northwest schools is because Masters Bus won't be repaired for a while.

Masters bus lines is located in Benton, but couldn't be reached for comment.
