LENOX TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY- A stormy night leaves all sorts of damage in Susquehanna County. Acre Lake, a neighborhood of mostly seasonal homes, was hit especially hard.
Trees through roofs and siding blown off houses. It's what John Keenen is seeing from his front porch. He can't remember a storm this bad. "Not as far as I know, for me, that was really bad winds. I was probably afraid some of these trees over here would come down and hit my care, hit my house," he said.
Sunday evening, rain and wind ripped through Acre Lake. It's mostly seasonal homes that were destroyed. Like this one, where the tree smashed right through.
Harford volunteer firefighter Chad Batzel was one of the first on the scene. "It was real strong winds . It was heavy straight downpours. It got real bad, real fast and it really didn't last long. But long enough to do some pretty good damage," he said.
And you didn't have to look far for that damage. Police tape surrounds one yard because it's not safe anymore.
Frank Schaffer lives nearby and is video taping the destruction. He saw it all start Sunday night. "Got really dark and couple of large boomers and everything else and all and them some of these straight line winds was just blowing the trees left and right, all over the place," he said.
The National Weather Service is surveying the damage to see if straight line winds or a tornado caused the damage in eastern Susquehanna County.
