((SUGAR NOTCH, Luzerne County)) – A Luzerne County teen is under arrest accused of setting a truck on fire owned by a local fire department. Police say the 19-year-old deliberately started the fire at an overnight party on pavilion land owned by the Sugar Notch Fire And Hose Company.

As Reporter Jill Konopka explains, the truck held equipment set aside for renovations to a community pavilion. Sugar Notch Fire Chief Bill Hagan remembers exactly what happened on June 30th.

Chief Bill Hagan spoke with Eyewitness News, "We got the call, when we got there, and the truck was totally ablaze." He and other firefighters were called to the Fire Department's pavilion land off Freed Street.

It's an area known for late night partying. There, they found their own storage truck in flames. Friday, police arrested and charged 19-year-old Greg Richards of Sugar Notch with arson.

Chief Hagan added, "It's an insult for everything that we do for the community. It's everybody's sweat and blood that goes into it." Richards posted $100,000.00 dollars bail shortly after his arrest. We went to his home looking for answers. Relatives told Eyewitness News more than one person was responsible for the arson. But several witnesses point the finger at Richards, saying he torched the truck twice.

Mike Bienick is a resident of the borough, “We’ve had our problems in the town before you know. I wasn't aware it happened, but I thought it's a shame that somebody would do it, senseless you know."

Chief Hagan added," For our pavilion rent it out for community affairs and stuff and that's basically what supplies were to finish up that building."

Chief Hagan believes the borough might be out about $5,000.00 dollars. Chief hagan also says they haven't had too many other problems at the pavilion until this recent incident.
