LUZERNE, LUZERNE COUNTY- Despite heated pleas, yelling and criticism, five of seven Luzerne Council members forged ahead with plans to terminate a police coverage contract with neighboring Swoyersville in favor of jump starting the defunct Luzerne department.
The contract with Swoyersville ends June 30.
Council took the issue to a vote for the second time. A lawsuit filed last month in the Court of Common Pleas alleged leaders secretly drafted and then authorized plans to terminate a police contract with Swoyersville and begin their own force. Leaders disputed the accusation. An attorney representing council said it was recommended they take another vote on the issue. | | |
