LUZERNE COUNTY- Public disapproval after the wife of a Wilkes-Barre area school board member, lands a teaching job in the district.
School leaders say the hiring of the wife of Wilkes-Barre Area board member James Fisher secured a teaching position just last week. They go on to say It had nothing to do with relationships or politics. School district leaders told us they can understand the public's suspicion. Especially after two board members have been snared in a sweeping federal investigation.
Even though Dionne Fisher just recently got her degree, the superintendent Dr. Jeff Namey and other board members stood behind the hiring decision
Meanwhile, in the Hazleton Area School District some board members are fighting to seize all hiring power from school boards.
Hazleton in 2008 narrowly passed a hiring policy that excluded board participation.
Now they're asking the state to make it law... No board intervention when hiring teachers.
