PLYMOUTH TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY -- As Eyewitness News was first to tell you at 6:00, Luzerne County Senior Judge Charles Joseph Rehkamp was arrested on simple assault and harassment charges.

State police say they were called to Rehkamp's home Saturday evening around 8:30 for a domestic dispute between the 61-year-old judge and his wife.

According to a police report Rehkamp threw his wife down in a chair and began to choke her. He then fled the area.

A warrant was issued for his arrest and the judge turned himself in just before 6:00 P. M. Sunday.

Rehkamp served as a county judge in Perry and Juniata Counties earlier in his career. He was appointed by the state to assist in a limited role at the Luzerne County Courthouse due to the shortage of judges and backlog of cases.
