Luzerne County Tax Hike in Proposed Budget

Luzerne County Tax Hike in Proposed Budget - Friday, January 29, 2010 at 7:36PM EST

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- It looks like Luzerne County taxpayers are going to have to dig deeper. The latest budget includes a tax increase. The proposed budget calls for a 15-percent property tax hike.

The county also laid off 13 workers. The tax hike means if your home is worth $150,000 you'll pay about $45 more a year. Taxpayers we talked with are not happy.

Ed Chesnovitch from Jackson Township said, "This is why we need home rule. The system is broken. We have all these solicitors, multiple solicitors arguing. Nobody knows what they're buying how much is being spent."

The final vote on the budget will be February 12th.
