Williamsport, Lycoming County-
In Lycoming County, two open seats for judge of the Court of Common Pleas garnered plenty of attention Tuesday night.
And both positions were decided in the primary election.
By all accounts, it was a slow day at the polls throughout Lycoming County. We found a few voters checking in just before closing time at the polling location at Annunciation Church in Williamsport.
Two attorneys who cross-filed for the open judge seats in the county won by wide margins. The first was Joy McCoy.
The second was Marc Lovecchio, whom we caught up with at a celebration at his home in Williamsport just after the final results came in.
Judge-elect Lovecchio explained, “We’re lucky here in Lycoming County. We’ve got wonderful judges. We’ve lost a couple very good judges and I hope to continue that tradition. I want the people of Lycoming County to know I’m humbled by the results of the election and above all that I’m here to serve them.”
Other races that received plenty of interest Tuesday night were three open seats on Williamsport city council.
On the democratic side, John Mussare, Liz Miele, and Mark Holt will be on the ballot in November. Their counterparts from the Republican Party will be Randall Allison, Bonnie Katz, and incumbent Skip Smith.
And there’s going to be a new sheriff in town.
The final race of interest comes with the retirement of Lycoming County Sheriff Charles Brewer. Battling it out in November will be Democrat Edward McGee and Republican Mark Lusk. | | |
