MCTA Celebrates 30 years - Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 3:54PM EST

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY - People who ride the bust in Monroe County got a great deal Thursday.

All rides cost just $.25.

The special fee was in honor of the Monroe County Transit Authority's 30th anniversary.

The MCTA displayed one of its first buses. It cost just one dollar to buy it in 1947.

The Authority is now buying four brand new buses. Two of them will be diesel-electric hybrids.

Peggy Howarth, Executive Director, said, "They do cost $150,000 more per bus to try but we wanted to see if that helps with the mileage, the fuel mileage that we get."

The public is invited to celebrate the anniversary on November 6th.

It's at 5 pm at Siamsa Irish Pub in Stroudsburg.
