EXETER, LUZERNE COUNTY- The student who contracted the MRSA staph infection attends Montgomery Avenue Elementary School.
The family called superintendent Ray Bernardi on Sunday, who called the district's medical experts for the best ways to handle it. One of those ways - cleaning schools. “I called our janitorial people and facilities manager since i wanted them to get into the building that evening wipe it down real good when i heard word of this confirmed case," said Wyoming Area School District Superintendent Ray Bernardi.
Bernardi also sent a telephone messages to all parents, reassuring them, that the situation was being addressed. "I'd like them to let the parents know this is one case isolated case the child contracted this infection doesn’t necessarily means he contracted this at Montgomery Avenue School. The best preventative measures i will tell you is good personal by far ,best preventative measures,” said Bernardi.
Parents we talked with were not overly concerned. The infected student was treated with antibiotics and is cured. A public meeting will be held Wednesday night at 6:30 at the Wyoming Area Secondary Center in Exeter. Medical experts will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns from parents.
